Fresh off a debut EP, an interstate tour, a string of sold-out shows in Melbourne and a single featuring ARIA nominee Gretta Ray, the indie rock poetry of Seb Szabo is set to take 2022 by storm.
San Francisco-born and Melbourne-raised, the 26-year old Australian songwriter bloomed late as a musician, harbouring secret dreams of a life on stage while at law school. Yet since beginning his solo career supporting indie rock darlings San Cisco whilst at university in 2019, the 26-year-old has become a mainstay of Victoria’s hardworking music scene.
Think Coldplay’s Chris Martin with a splash of Gang of Youths’ Dave Le’Aupepe, Seb’s songwriting bursts with life and energy, blending cinematic indie rock with an intimate, magnetic stage presence to paint soaring, colourful portraits of life and love.
Recorded through lockdown in 2020 with producers Josh Barber (Gretta Ray, Gotye) and Stephen Mowat (Ali Barter, His debut EP, the autobiographical voyage "Staring Out the Windows", was released in July 2021, telling the stories of early romances and offering a deeply personal portrait of a young, open-hearted artist.
Lead single "Even If You Break My Heart" was debuted on Triple J's Roots & All and launched to a sold-out crowd at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel. The record was described by Forte Mag as "the stuff of lighters-in-the-air magic”.
Seb also made an appearance on "The Voice Australia" 2021, turning three chairs and working with rock icon Keith Urban. His performance of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" garnered over 180K views on YouTube.
"Twice Over", the final single for the "Windows" era, featuring vocals from pop powerhouse Gretta Ray, was added to Triple J Unearthed rotation in November 2021. 2022 has seen the first interstate performances of Seb's career in Sydney and Canberra, performing alongside the likes of Dylan J, Charley and Aya Yves.
